Abstract
A simple approach, for the estimation of the failure rate from
a mixture model of
inferior and quality populations for the case that the ratio of
the inferior population
to the quality populations is unknown, is introduced. The possible
existence of a
quality population in the mixed populations is investigated using
the Akaike
information criterion. The probability of failure after the screening
test is then
obtained.
