Abstract
A new trunsored data model approach is introduced for the estimation
of the lifetime
of a fragile population from a mixture model of fragile and durable
populations for the case that the ratio of the fragile population
to the mixed
populations is unknown but the sample size is known. The possible
existence of a
durable population in the mixed populations is investigated using
the
likelihood ratio hypothesis test. The estimates and corresponding
confidence intervals
of the parameters in the underlying distribution for the fragile
population can then
be obtained.
